lyrics

The Old Pear Tree*

In the spring the pear tree`s blossoms
Gently float upon the breeze.
Softly falling petals touch me
As I stand beneath the trees.

Birds are twittering in the branches,
Singing songs of joy and love,
And a soaring lark is trilling
In the azure sky above.

In the creaking of the branches
Now I hear the old tree whispering,
Pleading with her blossoms fair,
This is what she says.

``Stay a while. Don`t go. Not yet.
Linger a little longer in your beauty.
Together we will revel in the soft spring rain,
In the gentle suns of spring.``

Soon you must leave me,
As you float to the damp, brown earth.
``But I must stay nurturing my fruits until the autumn,
When they will bend my bows as if to say.
Sweet blossoms you are gone but not forgotten.
We bow to you, remembering the spring``.
